The challenge

Syllable is an interior design and architecture firm based in Toronto, Canada. In 2018, they started growing their team, and that’s when Tatiana Soldatova, Syllable’s Co-Founder and Managing Director, knew that there had to be a better way to manage all her HR and Payroll.  And on top of this, she was also in search of an employee benefits provider.

“The thought of keeping things as is, in Excel, was daunting. I have a business to run. I don’t have the time to track people down and do things manually”. 

The solution

Tatiana looked at many options for her team, and, in the end, she decided on getting the all-in-one package with Humi – HR, Payroll, and Benefits. “As a founder, you’re wearing so many hats, including HR, but you also want to make sure your team is taken care of.”

The results

Now that Syllable has been with Humi since 2018, Tatiana says,  “I no longer have to think about the tedious work, and I can now focus on running my business. With this time that I’ve gained, I’ve been able to work on systems to take better care of our team and clients”. 

Even though Tatiana is a busy founder, she’s an advocate for creating systems around employee performance and makes time to build these within Humi. “We work to develop our team, while removing the recency bias when it comes to evaluating employee performance.”

The team tripled in size in just a year, which came with lots of growing pains, but Tatiana says, “Humi made onboarding and taking care of these people so much easier. It would have been so stressful going through this hiring phase without Humi”. 

And even with more recent events, she was happy to know that her Humi had her back. “With the COVID-19 Wage Subsidy, I didn’t have to do anything. It got automatically added to my payroll and created records for me. It was one less thing to worry about.”

As Syllable continues to grow, Humi is still supporting the team. “Humi is scalable, and I see it supporting us as we grow. I could not imagine running my company right now without Humi. Everything is in it. It’s a godsend.”
